I just couldn’t stay away! When the opportunity came up to intern at camp after my degree I couldn’t say yes fast enough. It has been incredible to see the evolution of the project over the years almost in line with my own evolution as a conservation biologist.

This time around being more involved with the turtles has been a blessing, nothing beats watching a nest naturally hatch, and even getting up at 2am is worth it to see a nesting mother. I’ve also relished the opportunity to become more involved with the coral restoration in Turtle Bay, seeing how far this has come is wonderful. And finally meeting so many incredible volunteers, guests and school children has been very fulfilling, I’ve loved helping to spread our message and inspire others to take more notice of conservation and the natural world.

Zoë’s original testimonial, after volunteering in 2019:

I spent 4 amazing weeks at Lang Tengah and it was truly incredibly special. All the staff were so welcoming and knowledgeable, I learnt so much and not just about turtles, but about fish, sharks, coral and conservation in general.

Camp life is so relaxed and chilled, the atmosphere created is full of friendship and community. Don’t get me wrong, it can be hard work, pulling wood out of the reef, diving to collect crown of thorns, and the night time patrols but it was so rewarding. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Lang Tengah Turtle Watch is a place like no other and I cannot wait to come back.
